As a visual artist Kate Steenhauer's work relates to drawings that she makes from life, capturing people absorbed in work and play.
Kate was born and raised in The Netherlands, where she played competitive tennis in her youth. She came to Scotland to do a PhD in Coastal Engineering, but has always been passionate about drawing and after her degree she received private tuition from several well-established artists.
'My practice explores the dynamic and interactive capacity of drawing in dialogue with other artforms and industries. These multi-disciplinary collaborations, such as with dance, opera, music, verbatim and Artificial Intelligence, can be viewed through the mediums of theatre, audio-visual installation/film and artwork; and is based on (evolving) painterly oriental drawings techniques'.
